Today started early because we wanted to go back into Canada and see
Niagara Falls. So after saying good bye to Amy Rose, we
journeyed back into Canada and took in one of the magnificent wonders
of the world.
After that, it was time to make our way down to Pittsburgh to see
Neal's friend Nick Mageras. Once arriving, Nick played tour
guide and showed everything there is to see in Mt. Lebanon and
Pittsburgh. We also had dinner at Primanti's, the #7 place on
the best places to pig out list, and it did not disappoint. However,
while we were eating there, a potential disaster occurred...
A down pour of rain started and it looked like a Hurricane.
Fortunately, it stopped and the game was only delayed about 40
minutes, which is a very good thing because this game and stadium
proved to be one of the best we will see on this entire trip.
Thanks to amazing seats provided by Nick's sister's boyfriend, we sat
second row behind the Padres dugout!!! Throughout the game, we were
talking with David Wells, Adrian Gonzalez, and Russ Branyan. It
was amazing.
As for the game, the Pirates shut out the Padres for the first 8
innings and led 2 to 0 going into the ninth. Well, a lead off
walk to Marcus Giles (always the kiss of death) and two doubles later
from Adrian Gonzalez and Mike Cameron, the game was tied and headed
for extras. In the 11th, things got interesting again, for the second
straight day. Mike Cameron homered to go up 3 to 2 for the
fathers. Then Josh Bard hit what looked to be a home run from our
vantage point. However, after about 10 minutes of deliberation
among the umpires, they ruled it a ground rule double. Bard
immediately went storming out of the dug out and was instantly ejected
and the manager Bud Black was soon ejected as well. But the Padres
were able to get that run in so it was really a moot point and they
won the game 4 to 2. Neal said after the game, "Thankfully I'm not a
Pirates fan."
Following the game, we met up with some of Neal's
other friends from school at Jerome Bettis' new bar. It was a great night and possibly will
be the best game of the trip. |
