National Baseball Hall of Fame,

Kayaking on Lake Otsego

Cooperstown, NY

After an early wake up in Boston, we were on the road, heading to Cooperstown, NY.  We met Jim Gates, the curator of the Hall of Fame research Library.  As promised, he provided us with a behind the scenes tour of private and stored hall of fame documents.

We each held the promissory note that sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees, and created the Curse of The Bambino [right].  We saw the original Abbot and Costello golden "Who's on First" record, the original "Pride of The Yankees" film reels, the official hand written ledger of Jackie Robinson's rookie season statistics, documents collected by Lou Gehrig on his trip to Japan, a document signed by all team owners in 1917 after the Black Sox scandal that gave the commissioner power to kick players out of baseball, and many rooms worth of private newspaper clippings, documents, pictures, videos and more [about 2.6 million documents total].

After this amazing tour, we spent a few hours in the museum.  We took many pictures, and tried to see everything there was to see at the Hall.  We saw a special plaque dedicated to Jim Murray [the late husband of Linda Murray, who arranged our Hall of Fame tour].  We saw many of our favorite Yankee relics, too!  After the museum, we stopped quickly at Double Day Field, the first home of baseball.

After a nice day at the Hall of Fame, we decided to test out our inflatable Kayaks.  We went to the nearby lake Otsego and spent about 2 hours on the lake, leisurely gliding out to the middle and relaxing.  Another two hour drive to Cornell took us to our next night spot, and we will be resting up for our early morning drive to Toronto, for the game against the Yankees!
