Padres win 9 to 4

Minute Maid Park,
Houston, Texas
During the game, we met Rod Windham, the sales manager
of Clear Channel Radio in Houston. He was a lot of fun, and even
took us down to meet Hall of Fame Announcer Milo Hamilton during the
game. Milo even told us that he heard us on the radio earlier in
the day! It was awesome. The game itself was pretty
uneventful until the last inning when the Astros trying to stage a
last inning rally. They got a few runs but couldn't overcome the
remaining 5 run deficit. Either way, we had a great time in
Minute Maid, which topped off the great hospitality that we received
in Texas...more!

We woke up today to the sight of a scorpion running
across our cabin floor, the sounds of gunshot fire in the near
distance and a story of a roadrunner sighting by a lady who worked at
the campground. Needless to say, New Mexico would be an
interesting place to spend the day. We headed out after
breakfast to Carlsbad Caverns, a massive cave system located in the
southeastern portion of New Mexico. We made it literally 1
minute before the last tour of the day departed, which was at 3 pm...more!

Then in the third, with a man on, Orlando Hudson homered
to deep center. Discouraged that we were kicked out of the good
seats, we were walking around near center field at that time. As
soon as the ball looked like it had a shot to travel the distance it
would take to clear the large center field wall, Neal dropped
everything and ran. A key bounce off the wall and then another
off the railing plus a diving Neal would lead to an extremely rare
snag of a home run ball. And the best part, Neal was on the
Jumboscreen catching and presenting the ball...more!

Utah
The Grand Canyon is simply just grand. Its huge.
And colorful, intricate, deep, long, and just amazing. It all
formed from millions of years of erosion from the Colorado River and
its tributaries, but its hard to believe how the river was able to
carve such a massive and diverse canyon. After getting to Grand
Canyon Village, we got a big lunch and were ready to explore the
canyon further. We walked over to the Hermits Rest shuttle stop
which allowed us to get many views along the South Rim. We took
a few mile long walks around the rim trail and managed to see all of
the viewpoints. The Colorado river was raging and we saw the
supposed Grade VIII rapids, which, compared to the Grade IV that we
experienced in Vancouver, seemed pretty scary to us...more!

We left Glendale, Utah for Zion National Park early,
and were immediately welcomed by massive rock formations that were
interestingly slanted in all directions. The checkerboard rock
pattern that formed by unique geological events really give Zion a
different feel. The first part of the park has similarly
checkered and slanted colorful formations with desert shrubbery
covering the valleys. However, two tunnels separate the main
valley from this part of the park. One of these tunnels, which
was built in the early 1930s, was 1.1 miles long and cuts directly
through the side of a mountain...more!

Today, we went to Bryce Canyon National Park, one of
the most beautiful and bizarre places on earth. As with other
parks in the southwest, this desert environment featured unique and
colorful rock formations sculpted by wind and water. Bryce is
especially beautiful, as its hoodoos [rock towers] rise from the
canyon with reds, whites, lavenders, oranges and yellow colors, and
also has scattered trees. We first went to Inspiration and
Sunrise Points before getting a quick bite to eat. Then, we
walked to the coral for our 2 hour horseback riding tour...more!

On the Delicate Arch trail, we saw ancient rock
carvings before heading to the arch. Walking in the late
afternoon, we were spared by the extreme heat, but it was nonetheless
a pretty strenuous hike uphill to the arch. We first got a great
view of the arch through a rock window that was across the canyon.
Making our final approach around a narrow cliff, Alon remembered his
Dad's story of when he got caught on that cliff during a torrential
thunderstorm which included constant lightning, rain and rocks falling
over his head. Luckily, we had a clear day and arrived just in
time to see the light bend in spectacular ways around the arch...more!

Today, we woke up at 7 AM and saw that we had a message
from Fox 6 San Diego asking us to come down to their studio to be
interviewed on the morning show. We woke up real quick, showered
and drove to the studio. Once we got there, we were invited to
relax in the green room and wait for our segment to air. Alon
saw a table of food outside of the green room and assumed it was there
for the guests of the show... so he took a banana and ate it! As
it turned out, that table of food was actually a "prop" table that was
about to be aired as part of a segment about what foods one should eat
to reduce stress. Ironically, Alon's act created more stress for the
producers. So, I ate a prop, which was funny, and then we were were
called out to be interviewed next to our car...more!

Los Angeles, CA
To get to the stadium, you have to drive up a big hill
which overlooks both the mountains to the north and downtown skyline
to the south. The stadium is oddly built down into the hill, but
it really gave us a great feeling. We especially liked the LA
flavor inside of the park, with the mountain view, palm trees, yellow
seats, cleanliness and well kept field. We were also surprised
by the energy of the fans. We were given great free tickets to
this game by the Dodgers, which were about 20 rows behind home plate.
Also, during the game, we were interviewed by the Dodger's blog writer
for the LA Times. He will be writing a story about how we think
Dodger Stadium compares to others in the NL West and MLB as a whole...more!

On July 15th, we went to Universal Studios, Hollywood.
We splurged and got the Fast Pass, but it was worth it since the lines
to most rides and shows were really long. Alon decided to sign
up to be a contestant on the Fear Factor Show. He made it!
So, while he was getting ready behind the scenes, Neal saw the Blues

across the Bay Bridge into Oakland for the Athletics match up with the
Seattle Mariners. McAfee Coliseum is old and run down. A
huge structure, called Mt. Davis, was recently built in the outfield
which serves as additional seating for when the Raiders play. The name
comes from the Raiders controversial owner Al Davis.
However. this structure makes this old stadium even worse and puts it
right among the worst stadiums we've seen on the trip.

swirls and hay balls were periodically along the road, but we also saw
various colorful aspects of the desert, too. The reds, browns

275 feet tall and has a 38 foot diameter at its base. It was

So, today we woke up in our cabin, showered and got
ready for a wonderful day at the famous Yosemite National Park!
We entered the park from the West entrance, and drove through the
stone arch to enter Yosemite Valley. Our first stop was the
towering Bridalveil Falls, which was not as powerful as usual due to
the worst California drought in 130 years. The waterfall was
more mist like, spraying streams of water over the edge of the cliffs
and being easily manipulated by an often strong wind. Neal and

slipping or skidding can occur. We went down the most drastic
road incline, on ice, in all of North America, some 32 degree decline,
at about 12 MPH max. speed. Once on the glacier, we were

Well, Fenway lived up to all of its expectations,
and more! We started off the day with delicious burgers at
Eagle's Deli, a place known for its 5 pound burgers. After
getting stuck on the road in a Memorial Day parade, we finally made it
to the Beacon Hill area of Boston, to meet our friend Ajay. We
showered, and got ready for the game, and then headed on the T
[subway] to Fenway Park for our on field interview...

We actually made it out before 11 AM! Alon almost
forgot his computer... but we managed to get in the car with
everything we needed, we hope! Neal and Alon drove to Alon's
friend Kim's house for brunch, in Fairfield, CT. It was a great
time; Kim got us great bagels, and cooked us eggs, too! It was a
nice way to start our trip...

Yankee Stadium,
Bronx, NY
Today, we were off to see our favorite team, then
New York Yankees, and the fact that they were playing their arch
rival, the Boston Red Sox made it that much more exciting. We
both arrived at Yankee Stadium slightly after the Yanks started
batting practice. Neal was very close to catching a ball but it
was just out of his reach. We made our way to the upper deck and
took our usual pictures of the field and of us with the field and we
met some great Yankee fans along the way...

RFK Stadium,

After Neal and Alon both got a
much needed night of rest, we were off to RFK stadium to see the
Washington Nationals take on the Baltimore Orioles. First, we had to
say goodbye to our good friend Ajay, who proved to be a tremendous
host in Washington DC. We all had a quick bite at Dunkin Donuts and
entered the Metro (Washington’s version of a subway). After finally
figuring the confusing directions, we hopped onto the necessary train
and were off to RFK....

As you will see on Sunday night, when we upload our
pictures, Neal and Alon not only made it to the grandstand, but we had
the best seats in the entire house. Alon stood up on a chair during
the final stretch of the Preakness Stakes, restricting Neal's view,
but he managed to get a great video photo finish. Unfortunately, this
led to a disappointing view of Curlin's winning over Street Sense by a
nose. We managed to sneak into this section, and the staff ended up
being especially lax today. We walked right into the grandstand,
right into the finish line section, and right up to the fence of the
track. The rain held out for most of the day, and was only drizzling
by the time the race got underway...

Shea Stadium, Queens,

Day 1. After much anticipation, publicity,
planning, and anxiousness, we finally went to the first game of our 75
day, 22,000 mile, 30 stadium road trip. As Yankee fans, we were all
geared up in Yankee jerseys, hoping they would at least win one game
for us tonight. That didn't happen, but we still had a great time...
