Meet Neal and Alon

NailzAlon

Over five years ago, Neal Koral and Alon Mass dreamt up the idea of visiting every baseball stadium in America.  Starting on May 18th, 2007, they will finally embark on an approximately 22,000 mile voyage across the United States of America as well as Canada. They will see a game at every single Major League Baseball stadium, visit many national parks, cities, and friends. On the way, they will also visit the MLB Hall of Fame, have a catch in the hallowed Field of Dreams, see where the Louisville Slugger bats are created, and catch balls from the 2007 Home Run derby while in Kayaks in McCovey Cove.  More...

In addition, we have created the "Home Run Fund," a way to raise money for charity throughout the course of our trip.  Please visit our charity page, to see how you can help us raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the RBI [Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities] program.

Houston Astros vs. San Diego Padres

Padres win 9 to 4

Pics here

Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas

During the game, we met Rod Windham, the sales manager of Clear Channel Radio in Houston.  He was a lot of fun, and even took us down to meet Hall of Fame Announcer Milo Hamilton during the game.  Milo even told us that he heard us on the radio earlier in the day!  It was awesome.  The game itself was pretty uneventful until the last inning when the Astros trying to stage a last inning rally.  They got a few runs but couldn't overcome the remaining 5 run deficit.  Either way, we had a great time in Minute Maid, which topped off the great hospitality that we received in Texas...more!

July 24th, 2007

Carlsbad Caverns National Park and Roswell

Pics here

New Mexico

We woke up today to the sight of a scorpion running across our cabin floor, the sounds of gunshot fire in the near distance and a story of a roadrunner sighting by a lady who worked at the campground.  Needless to say, New Mexico would be an interesting place to spend the day.  We headed out after breakfast to Carlsbad Caverns, a massive cave system located in the southeastern portion of New Mexico.  We made it literally 1 minute before the last tour of the day departed, which was at 3 pm...more!

July 23rd, 2007

Arizona Diamondbakcs vs. Florida Marlins

Dbakcs win 4 to 3

Pics here

Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona

Then in the third, with a man on, Orlando Hudson homered to deep center.  Discouraged that we were kicked out of the good seats, we were walking around near center field at that time.  As soon as the ball looked like it had a shot to travel the distance it would take to clear the large center field wall, Neal dropped everything and ran.  A key bounce off the wall and then another off the railing plus a diving Neal would lead to an extremely rare snag of a home run ball.  And the best part, Neal was on the Jumboscreen catching and presenting the ball...more!

July 22nd, 2007

Grand Canyon National Park

Pics here

Utah

The Grand Canyon is simply just grand.  Its huge.  And colorful, intricate, deep, long, and just amazing.  It all formed from millions of years of erosion from the Colorado River and its tributaries, but its hard to believe how the river was able to carve such a massive and diverse canyon.  After getting to Grand Canyon Village, we got a big lunch and were ready to explore the canyon further.  We walked over to the Hermits Rest shuttle stop which allowed us to get many views along the South Rim.  We took a few mile long walks around the rim trail and managed to see all of the viewpoints.  The Colorado river was raging and we saw the supposed Grade VIII rapids, which, compared to the Grade IV that we experienced in Vancouver, seemed pretty scary to us...more!

July 21st, 2007

Zion National Park

Pics here

Utah

We left Glendale, Utah for Zion National Park early, and were immediately welcomed by massive rock formations that were interestingly slanted in all directions.  The checkerboard rock pattern that formed by unique geological events really give Zion a different feel.  The first part of the park has similarly checkered and slanted colorful formations with desert shrubbery covering the valleys.  However, two tunnels separate the main valley from this part of the park.  One of these tunnels, which was built in the early 1930s, was 1.1 miles long and cuts directly through the side of a mountain...more!

July 20th, 2007

Bryce Canyon National Park

Pics here

Utah

Today, we went to Bryce Canyon National Park, one of the most beautiful and bizarre places on earth.  As with other parks in the southwest, this desert environment featured unique and colorful rock formations sculpted by wind and water.  Bryce is especially beautiful, as its hoodoos [rock towers] rise from the canyon with reds, whites, lavenders, oranges and yellow colors, and also has scattered trees.  We first went to Inspiration and Sunrise Points before getting a quick bite to eat.  Then, we walked to the coral for our 2 hour horseback riding tour...more!

July 19th, 2007

Canyonlands and Arches National Park

Pics here

Utah

On the Delicate Arch trail, we saw ancient rock carvings before heading to the arch.  Walking in the late afternoon, we were spared by the extreme heat, but it was nonetheless a pretty strenuous hike uphill to the arch.  We first got a great view of the arch through a rock window that was across the canyon.  Making our final approach around a narrow cliff, Alon remembered his Dad's story of when he got caught on that cliff during a torrential thunderstorm which included constant lightning, rain and rocks falling over his head.  Luckily, we had a clear day and arrived just in time to see the light bend in spectacular ways around the arch...more!

July 18th, 2007

Drive to Utah, Hoover Dam

Pics here

CA, AZ, NV, UT

Today, we woke up at 7 AM and saw that we had a message from Fox 6 San Diego asking us to come down to their studio to be interviewed on the morning show.  We woke up real quick, showered and drove to the studio.  Once we got there, we were invited to relax in the green room and wait for our segment to air.  Alon saw a table of food outside of the green room and assumed it was there for the guests of the show... so he took a banana and ate it!  As it turned out, that table of food was actually a "prop" table that was about to be aired as part of a segment about what foods one should eat to reduce stress. Ironically, Alon's act created more stress for the producers. So, I ate a prop, which was funny, and then we were were called out to be interviewed next to our car...more!

July 17th, 2007

San Diego Padres vs. New York Mets

Mets win 7 to 0

Pics here

San Diego, CA

While on the field during BP, we got to meet Ricky Henderson and talk to a few players, including Shawn Green.  Neal got a ball and had Green sign it, and Alon got his autograph on his ticket.  Alex knew the lady who does the pregame show for the Padres, and set us up with a cool live on field interview before the game.   It was awesome...more!

July 16th, 2007

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Dodgers win 10 to 3

Pics here

Los Angeles, CA

To get to the stadium, you have to drive up a big hill which overlooks both the mountains to the north and downtown skyline to the south.  The stadium is oddly built down into the hill, but it really gave us a great feeling.  We especially liked the LA flavor inside of the park, with the mountain view, palm trees, yellow seats, cleanliness and well kept field.  We were also surprised by the energy of the fans.  We were given great free tickets to this game by the Dodgers, which were about 20 rows behind home plate.  Also, during the game, we were interviewed by the Dodger's blog writer for the LA Times.  He will be writing a story about how we think Dodger Stadium compares to others in the NL West and MLB as a whole...more!

July 14th  and 15th, 2007

The beach and Universal Studios

No pics here :(

Los Angeles, CA

On July 15th, we went to Universal Studios, Hollywood.  We splurged and got the Fast Pass, but it was worth it since the lines to most rides and shows were really long.  Alon decided to sign up to be a contestant on the Fear Factor Show.  He made it!  So, while he was getting ready behind the scenes, Neal saw the Blues Brothers and Shrek 4D.  The Fear Factor Show was based on the real TV show, and Alon competed against 4 other guys in front of a crowd of 2,000 people...more!

July 13th, 2007

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs. Texas Rangers

Angels win 2 to 1

Pics here

Angels Stadium, Anaheim, CA

After waking up, we drove down to LA to meet Ty Nowell, a guy we met who did the baseball road trip last year.  Ty now works for the Lakers as a website designer and also the season ticket graphic designer.  He showed us around the practice facility and front offices, and we even got to shoot around on the court!  After this, he generously treated us to lunch at a great burger place in Manhattan Beach...more!

July 12th, 2007

Pacific Coast Highway

Pics here

California Coast

After saying goodbye to Ruth and her children, we headed towards the Golden Gate Bridge to take pictures from both sides.  The parks that overlook the bridge provided us with amazing views of the city and the bay.  While driving on the bridge back into SF, Neal played the theme song from Full House; it was one of the top moments of the trip for him.  After this, we got on to route 1, the Pacific Coast Highway, and began our voyage down the coast...more!

July 11th, 2007

Wine Tour

Pics here

Napa Valley, CA

Today we woke up early to take a cab to Fisherman's Warf where we met our bus for a wine tour to the Napa Valley. The bus driver was a true Wine expert, and he would eventually become one of our favorite characters of the trip.  His humor mixed in nicely with the information he provided us of the wineries and local area...more!

July 10th, 2007

Lunch with Alon's parents/Alcatraz

Pics here

San Francisco, CA

My parents flew out to San Francisco just to get a chance to make it on the website!  Our stardom is obviously real at this point, and they wanted to get a taste of that... Well, actually, Alon's parents went out to California to see Yosemite, Kings, Sequoia, Monterey, San Fran, Napa, etc... but they luckily flew into SF when we were still here, and we got to have lunch with them before they drove out to Yosemite...more!

July 9th, 2007

Home Run Derby

Vladimir Guerrero wins

Pics here

AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA

We hauled our inflatable kayaks about half a mile before reaching the Official Boat Launch area for the Home Run Derby.  Along with about 300 other vessels, we passed through coast guard control and got a special sticker.  We used our kayaks to float in McCovey Cove and try to catch some Home Run balls.  The cove was literally jammed pack and the atmosphere was great.  However, the Derby itself was somewhat boring and there were no actual Home Runs hit into the Cove...more!

July 8th, 2007

Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners

Mariners win 7 to 3

Pics here

McAfee Colesium, Oakland, CA

Today, we headed out of downtown San Francisco and across the Bay Bridge into Oakland for the Athletics match up with the Seattle Mariners.  McAfee Coliseum is old and run down.  A huge structure, called Mt. Davis, was recently built in the outfield which serves as additional seating for when the Raiders play. The name comes from the Raiders controversial owner Al Davis.   However. this structure makes this old stadium even worse and puts it right among the worst stadiums we've seen on the trip.  Thankfully, they are building a new ballpark set to open in the next three or four years...more!

July 6th and 7th, 2007

Lake Tahoe

Pics here

California and Nevada

Today, we headed out from Vegas with a long drive ahead of us.  Driving through the desert, we saw many stereotypical features, but also many beautiful vistas.  The classic dust swirls and hay balls were periodically along the road, but we also saw various colorful aspects of the desert, too.  The reds, browns and tans blended nicely with the rock formations and dirty green bushes and cacti.  Immediately after we got to Lake Tahoe, we went onto the beach and took some scenic pictures while skipping rocks...more!

July 4th and 5th, 2007

Pics here

Las Vegas, Nevada

What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas...

Well, except for... driving into Las Vegas at night, which was really cool.  When you enter the Nevada border, the first thing you see is lights, and you immediately think Vegas.  But as it happens, there are two small casino towns before Vegas called Primm and Jean.  When you finally get to Vegas, the lights overwhelm you...more!

July 3rd, 2007

Sequoia National Park

Pics here

California State

We all fit in the tent!  After waking up in a forest of tall trees, we drove to a store inside of the park to buy a quick breakfast.  Our first stop today was the General Sherman Tree, the largest living thing on Earth, in volume.  This tree is 275 feet tall and has a 38 foot diameter at its base.  It was huge.  It is also estimated to be over 2,000 years old.  After admiring this giant, we headed to the Crystal Cave, one of the only marble caves in the world...more!

July 2nd, 2007

Yosemite/Kings Canyon National Park

Pics here

California State

Today, we woke up, ate a quick and small breakfast, ordered bagged lunches and then headed back into Yosemite Nationalv  Park.  We drove through the arch gate again and this time all the way to the famous tunnel, which allows cars to pass into the valley.  We didn't look back until after coming back in through the tunnel, so we could see the famous Ansel Adams views as our first.  Together, Half Dome and El Capitan wonderfully cap the tree lined valley, and it truly is a breathtaking sight..more!

July 1st, 2007

Yosemite National Park

Pics here

California State

So, today we woke up in our cabin, showered and got ready for a wonderful day at the famous Yosemite National Park!  We entered the park from the West entrance, and drove through the stone arch to enter Yosemite Valley.  Our first stop was the towering Bridalveil Falls, which was not as powerful as usual due to the worst California drought in 130 years.  The waterfall was more mist like, spraying streams of water over the edge of the cliffs and being easily manipulated by an often strong wind.  Neal and Alon climbed a rock mountain to get to the upper falls pool, but the view was definitely worth the struggle...more!

June 30th, 2007

San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Giants win 4 to 1

Pics here

San Francisco, California

Today, Alon woke up at 7 AM to move the car to a parking lot.  Then, he woke up at 11 AM to drive to the airport to pick up his sister, Sivanne, who will be joining us for the next 10 days.  After getting back to Natalie's apartment, Alon and Neal did a few loads of laundry.  We got lunch in Chinatown, and also went to the market to stock up on some fresh fruit; leeche, mango and cherries.  After the laundry, we made our way to AT & T Park, the beautiful home of the San Francisco Giants...more!

June 29th, 2007

Redwood National Park

Pics here

Northwest California

This morning, we walked out of our cabin and immediately were surrounded by huge trees.  After checking out, we drove to Crescent City center to get a permit for the Tall Trees Grove and also to have our third oil change.  We then headed to Redwood National Park.  We were first treated to amazing views of the Pacific Ocean, with rocky and black beaches in the midst of enormous redwood trees.  Driving further into the forest,  were shocked by the massiveness of some of the redwoods...more!

June 28th, 2007

Crater Lake National Park

Pics here

Oregon State

After we woke up, Zack took us to a local breakfast place.  Then, he showed us around the campus of U of Oregon a bit before we said goodbye to him.  Alon bought a "joke book" from "Frog," a local homeless by choice man.  He was pretty hilarious.  We drove straight to Crater Lake after this, in the southern part of Oregon...more!

June 27th, 2007

Seattle and Mt. Rainier

Pics here

Washington State

Today, we started the day with breakfast at Beth's Cafe, which featured the famous 12 egg omelet.  Alon ordered a 6 egg omelet, and only ate about half, while Neal finished an entire 12 egg omelet.  This was our 4th stop at one of the "Top 10 Places to Pig Out," according to the Travel Channel.  After breakfast, we headed down to the Space Needle...more!

June 26th, 2007

Seattle Mariners vs. Boston Red Sox

Mariners win 8 to 7

Pics here

Safeco Field, Seattle, WA

After waking up in our tent, we drove to Vancouver again for a sushi lunch [the fish is really good here!].  We had a very nice lunch in the downtown area, and then headed off to America!  We got across the border after a few minutes of questioning, and we were glad to be home!  Another 2 hours and we were in Seattle.  We parked downtown, and walked about 20 minutes to Safeco Field.  On the way, we got $15 tickets from two scalpers, and then headed towards the gates.  Neal's ticket worked, but Alon's did not...more!

June 24/25th, 2007

Vancouver and Chilliwack

Pics here

British Columbia

After that, we jumped in the raft and were off!  We hit some pretty big rapids; mostly grade III, but one grade IV section.  The owner of the company, who must be in his late 50s, was kayaking down the torrent river next to our rafts the entire time.  We really got a kick out of this; he was amazing at kayaking, and we were joking about our leisurely kayaking adventures.  They took us through the woods to a waterfall.  We climbed behind it and took some pictures [it was freezing!]...more!

June 23rd, 2007

Jasper National Park

Pics here

Canadian Rockies

After waking up late in my cabin, I headed back towards Jasper for some lunch.  I ate at a local pizza place and then headed towards Maligne Lake, the "most visited place in Jasper," according to a guide I found in the restaurant.  I got another quick look at a bear on the road down to the lake.  The lake itself was very long and narrow, and surrounded by snow covered peaks.  What set it apart, however, was the amazing reflection it had of the surrounding mountains and trees.  I waited for a few minutes until the water was calm, in order to take a reflection picture...more!

June 22nd, 2007

Banff and Jasper National Park

Pics here

Canadian Rockies

The ice field was really spectacular.  I arrived at the center at around 4:50, and signed up for a 5:30 tour.  They take you out on special trucks that are designed to only operate in first gear, and also lock the transmission to the engine, so no slipping or skidding can occur.  We went down the most drastic road incline, on ice, in all of North America, some 32 degree decline, at about 12 MPH max. speed.  Once on the glacier, we were surrounded by ice on all sides.  The ice was 1,000 feet deep, and there were many canyons within that could engulf an entire bus.  The ice field is also a triple divide, meaning it supplies water to all three surrounding oceans...more!

June 21st, 2007

Banff National Park

Pics here

Canadian Rockies

Today, we woke up in our motel outside of Banff National Park and headed towards the gate.  Immediately, the Canadian Rockies surrounded us on all sides, and the crisp blue lakes came into view.  The Canadian Rockies national park system is serviced by a long highway that runs from Banff to Jasper.  Along the way, many incredible outlooks and trails can be accessed.  We headed straight to Lake Louise, a gorgeous resort town on a lake, within the Valley of Ten Peaks, and on one of the bluest lakes you will ever see...more!

June 20th, 2007

Glacier National Park

Pics here

Northwest Montana

Today, we woke up in our tent and realized we were in the middle of a beautiful mountain range overlooking a lake.  The Polson campground was the best we stayed at yet, and we slept very well.  When checking out, we learned that the main road in Glacier National Park, the "Going To The Sun" road, was closed for major construction.  Avalanches had destroyed some bridges and roads this winter, and the park was still being reconstructed.  This changed our plan, as we drove about 3 hours to the east side of the park...more!

June 19th, 2007

Yellowstone  National Park

Pics here

Northwest Wyoming

Today, we woke up early after a long sleep in our tent.  We packed up our stuff and drove into Yellowstone.  There were many cars on the road, and we at first thought there was a traffic jam.  Luckily, it was due to a Bald Eagle's nest, filled with baby eagles.  The mother eagle was nearby and sat perched, posing for pictures.  Then, we went to the Norris Geyser Basin, to see a bunch of different types of hot springs, geysers, and bubbling pools...more!

June 18th, 2007

Grand Teton and Yellowstone  National Parks

Pics here

Northwest Wyoming

After waking up and realizing we were in a TeePee, we ate a quick breakfast and drove through the beautiful Ski Resort town of Jackson Hole, towards Grand Teton National Park.  Grand Teton presented us with drastic peaks, even from the beginning.  These classic looking mountains jump out of the plains, and are adorned with lakes and forests...more!

June 17th, 2007

Colorado Rockies vs. Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Devil Rays win 7 to 4

Pics here

Coors Field, Denver, CO

Coors' fence dimensions are huge, but the thin air makes it seem like its a little league park.  6 balls flew over the fence, and 3 more hit the wall.  The home runs, however, all traveled well beyond the fences, even the ones hit by non power hitters.  The ball is said to travel about 5 to 10% longer at Coors, due to the Mile High elevation.  Though the Rockies lost, we were treated to quite a slugfest...more!

June 16th, 2007

Rocky Mountain National Park

Pics here

Colorado

We drove to numerous overlooks, which presented us with sights of snow capped mountains, reaching about 14,000 feet at the highest point.  We were treated to our second round of wildlife, seeing numerous Elk, a Marmot, deer, and a rabbit.  Needless the say, the park doesn't need an abundance of wildlife to make for a great time.  We saw solid lava beds, played with unmelted snow, and saw the Continental Divide, the point where water either flows east to the Atlantic or west to the Pacific...more!

June 15th, 2007

Mt. Rushmore, Wind Cave NP

Pics here

Black Hills Region, South Dakota

Today, we stopped at Mt. Rushmore again for a view of the mountain by day.  The mountain is truly majestic, impressive and just really cool.  Mt. Rushmore is small in size compared to our next stop, Crazy Horse Monument.  We decided, however, to forego paying the $20 it would take to enter Crazy Horse, just took a few pictures, and left.  We were disappointed by the huge, but unfinished mountain sculpture.  A few miles down the road in the beautiful Black Hills is Wind Cave National Park ...more!

June 14th, 2007

Badlands National Park

Pics here

South Dakota

The landscapeundergoes a drastic change after entering the Badlands gate.  The landscape is said to resemble the moon, with white, red, yellow, and even the occasional green layer of earth, stacked in mounds, towers, and other bizarre formations.  We took an hour hike on the "Notch Trail," and even climbed too high on some of the mud mounds; Alon almost didn't get down...more!

June 13th, 2007

Minnesota Twins vs. Atlanta Braves

Twins win 6 to 0

Pics here

HHH Metrodome, Minneapolis, MN

Today, we started going north through Iowa.  We decided to take a detour through the state capitol, Des Moines, to have some lunch.  We parked near the capitol building, in order to take some quick pictures before heading to Minneapolis.  We went to the Mall of America, the largest mall in the USA.  It is a very nice place, and we both had a great time walking around the amusement park...more!

June 11/12th, 2007

Kansas City Royals vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Royals win 8 to 1

Pics here

Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, MO

Kauffman was built in the early 70s.  When Alon's Dad went on a road trip, him and his friend visited Kauffman during its inaugural season.  We were impressed by the modernity of Kauffman: it has an open lower level, like new stadiums, an incredible fountain that spans 322 feet in the outfield, and a retro style scoreboard.  Located in the middle of the heartland, its a nice ballpark for a small town team...more!

June 10th, 2007

St. Louis Cardinals vs. LA Angels

Cardinals win 9 to 6

Pics here

Busch Stadium, St. Louis, MO

Today, we left the Super 8 motel after eating breakfast, and started on our way to St. Louis.  The drive wasn't too bad, and the view of the city and Arch is immediately seen when arriving in the city.   We managed to park about an hour before the game started.  The sea of Red could be seen from blocks away, and it was evident that cards fans are very proud...more!

June 9th, 2007

Cincinnati Reds vs. Cleveland Indians; Churchill Downs

Indians win 8 to 6 [in 11 innings]

Pics here

Louisville, Kentucky; Great American Ballpark, Cincinnati, Ohio

After checking out of a small motel on the Kentucky side of Cincinnati, we were glad to be headed towards Louisville.  We arrived at the Slugger factory at around 11 AM, and immediately bought tickets for a tour.  After seeing a short video, we were guided through the factory where they actually make all of the bats used in professional baseball...more!

June 7th/8th, 2007

Detroit Tigers vs. NY Mets

Mets win 3 to 0

Pics here

Comerica Park, Detroit, MI

After a late wake up and a visit to the Detroit MGM Grand Casino, we were off to Comerica Park for the Tigers game.  Outside of Comerica, there are  numerous tiger statues, two huge bats, and a lot of cool decorations.  The inside of the park has a fountain, two tiger statues on the scoreboard, an interestingly shaped infield dirt, a kids area with a ferris wheel and merry go round, huge dimensions, and a great view of the downtown...more!

June 6th, 2007

Chicago WhiteSox vs. NY Yankees

Yankees win 5 to 1

Pics here

US Cellular Field, Chicago, Illinois

Today, we got a real good night of sleep.  After we woke up, "The Dude" Danny took us to a great Chinese place for some lunch.  After that, we said our goodbyes and made our back down to Chicago.  But first, we stopped at Mars' Cheese Castle in Kenosha (home of the Kenosha Kickers from Home Alone) to see and taste hundreds of different cheeses in the Dairy land known as Wisconsin... more!

June 5th, 2007

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Chicago Cubs

Brewers win 7 to 5

Pics here

Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Today, we made our way to Wisconsin.  We left Kevin's house early in the morning and made our way up to Green Bay to see the classic Lambeau field.  But first, we stopped in Appleton to see our friend Marissa.  She cooked us a delicious lunch for which we were very thankful.  After that, we were off to Lambeau... more!

June 4th, 2007

Field of Dreams

Pics here

Dyersville, Iowa

We drove 3.5 hours, through western Illinois, got our first oil change, went across the Mississippi river [after stopping to touch the water], and pretty much drove through the middle of nowhere, to get to... well, to the middle of nowhere.  But this nowhere has a hallowed field, and it turned out to be both of our favorite days of the trip thus far...more!

June 3rd, 2007

Chicago Cubs vs. Atlanta Braves

Cubs win 10 to 1

Pics here

Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois

We woke up early on the 3rd to experience the festive pregame atmosphere before Cubs games.  Wrigleyville was great, one of the best locations we've seen so far.  The bars outside of the stadium are all packed, street music can be heard, and fans are all in blue.  We especially loved the rooftop seats that private landlords installed on the top of buildings that have views of the field.  Patrons can watch the game from these rooftops, but for a hefty fee... more!

June 1st, 2007

Cleveland Indians vs. Detroit Tigers

Indians win 12 to 11

Pics here

Jacobs Field, Cleveland, OH

The two and half hour drive wasn't that bad at all, although we hit some rain outside Cleveland and that caused the Indians to cancel batting practice.  Once we arrived at the stadium we were given a behind the scenes tour of the stadium by Danielle Cherry.  We saw the press box, media room, the luxury areas of the park, batting cages, entrance to the club house, and of course got to go on the field.  Since there was no batting practice, we were able to walk around at will and enjoy a solitary time on the field...more!

May 31st, 2007

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. San Diego Padres

Padres win 4 to 2 [in the 11th]

Pics here

PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA

Today started early because we wanted to go back into Canada and see Niagara Falls.  So after saying good bye to Amy Rose, we journeyed back into Canada and took in one of the magnificent wonders of the world.

After that, it was time to make our way down to Pittsburgh to see Neal's friend Nick Mageras.  Once arriving, Nick played tour guide and showed everything there is to see in Mt. Lebanon and Pittsburgh.  We also had dinner at Primanti's, the #7 place on the best places to pig out list, and it did not disappoint. However, while we were eating there, a potential disaster occurred...more!

Rogers Center, Toronto, ON

After leaving Cornell in the morning, we headed west to Buffalo to see our friend Amy Rose.  We dropped off our stuff at her house before driving to Toronto.  Unfortunately, traffic turned the 80 mile drive into a 2 hour 45 minute drive.  Luckily, we arrived at the Rogers Centre as they were singing the national anthems (in Canada, they sing both)...more!

After an early wake up in Boston, we were on the road, heading to Cooperstown, NY.  We met Jim Gates, the curator of the Hall of Fame research Library.  As promised, he provided us with a behind the scenes tour of private and stored hall of fame documents... more!

Fenway Park, Boston, MA

Well, Fenway lived up to all of its expectations, and more!  We started off the day with delicious burgers at Eagle's Deli, a place known for its 5 pound burgers.  After getting stuck on the road in a Memorial Day parade, we finally made it to the Beacon Hill area of Boston, to meet our friend Ajay.  We showered, and got ready for the game, and then headed on the T [subway] to Fenway Park for our on field interview... more!

Start, Fairfield, CT, Mohegan Sun, and Cambridge, MA Pics here

We actually made it out before 11 AM!  Alon almost forgot his computer... but we managed to get in the car with everything we needed, we hope!  Neal and Alon drove to Alon's friend Kim's house for brunch, in Fairfield, CT.  It was a great time; Kim got us great bagels, and cooked us eggs, too!  It was a nice way to start our trip... more!

NY Yankees Vs. Boston Red Sox

Red Sox win 7 to 3

Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY

Today, we were off to see our favorite team, then New York Yankees, and the fact that they were playing their arch rival, the Boston Red Sox made it that much more exciting.  We both arrived at Yankee Stadium slightly after the Yanks started batting practice.  Neal was very close to catching a ball but it was just out of his reach.  We made our way to the upper deck and took our usual pictures of the field and of us with the field and we met some great Yankee fans along the way... more.

Washington Nationals Vs. Baltimore Orioles

Nats win 4 to 3    Pics here

RFK Stadium, Washington, DC

After Neal and Alon both got a much needed night of rest, we were off to RFK stadium to see the Washington Nationals take on the Baltimore Orioles.  First, we had to say goodbye to our good friend Ajay, who proved to be a tremendous host in Washington DC.  We all had a quick bite at Dunkin Donuts and entered the Metro (Washington’s version of a subway).  After finally figuring the confusing directions, we hopped onto the necessary train and were off to RFK.... more.

Preakness Stakes

Curlin' Wins    Pics here

Pimlico Park, MD ad Washington, DC

As you will see on Sunday night, when we upload our pictures, Neal and Alon not only made it to the grandstand, but we had the best seats in the entire house.  Alon stood up on a chair during the final stretch of the Preakness Stakes, restricting Neal's view, but he managed to get a great video photo finish.  Unfortunately, this led to a disappointing view of Curlin's winning over Street Sense by a nose.  We managed to sneak into this section, and the staff ended up being especially lax today.  We walked right into the grandstand, right into the finish line section, and right up to the fence of the track.  The rain held out for most of the day, and was only drizzling by the time the race got underway... more.

NY Mets Vs. NY Yankees

Mets win 3 to 2    Pics here

Shea Stadium, Queens, NY

Day 1.  After much anticipation, publicity, planning, and anxiousness, we finally went to the first game of our 75 day, 22,000 mile, 30 stadium road trip.  As Yankee fans, we were all geared up in Yankee jerseys, hoping they would at least win one game for us tonight.  That didn't happen, but we still had a great time... more
