If you build it, Alon Mass and Neal Koral will come...
We drove 3.5 hours, through western Illinois, got our
first oil change, went across the Mississippi river [after stopping to
touch the water], and pretty much drove through the middle of nowhere,
to get to... well, to the middle of nowhere. But this nowhere
has a hallowed field, and it turned out to be both of our favorite
days of the trip thus far.
After arriving, we immediately made our way to the
field, ran the bases, and had a catch. We fielded ground balls,
pitched from the mound, and also had a toss in the outfield, beside
the short, but growing corn fields. Besides the small bench,
rustic farm house, two American flags and a small new gift shop, the
field is the only thing that can be seen besides fields of corn and
the occasional tree.
This cloudy and windy day provided us with a perfect
setting to take some great pictures. We tested our creative
sides, and even helped other visitors with pictures of their own.
Nowhere, as we found out, can be as exciting and fun as a packed
city... but there still has to be a baseball field!
We drove back to Chicago, stopped for pizza in
Winnebago, Illinois, and stopped at Neal's friend Kevin's house for
the night. Another good night sleep, then off to Green Bay and
Milwaukee in the morning! |
