Today, Alon woke up at 7 AM to move the car to a
parking lot. Then, he woke up at 11 AM to drive to the airport
to pick up his sister, Sivanne, who will be joining us for the next 10
days. After getting back to Natalie's apartment, Alon and Neal
did a few loads of laundry. We got lunch in Chinatown, and also
went to the market to stock up on some fresh fruit; leeche, mango and
cherries. After the laundry, we made our way to AT & T Park, the
beautiful home of the San Francisco Giants.
The walk along the bay to the ballpark is beautiful; we were treated
to a great view of the bay bridge, the skyscrapers of downtown, and
finally to the ballpark, which rests along the water. AT & T is
a perfect park; it combines an amazing location with classic
architecture, a fan friendly environment and special features to
provide for an amazing baseball experience. The statue of Willy
Mays under the palm trees of the home plate entrance was where we
would say goodbye to Sivanne, who explored downtown with a friend
instead of going to the Giants game [... we'll let it slide].
Once inside the park, we walked along the right
field corridor, which gave us a view of the bay and the ballpark at
the same time. We checked out the kayakers, to see what the home
run derby will be like for us. Then, we walked to center and
left field, where the Giants created a large playground and fun area
for kids and adults alike. We slid down the big Coca Cola slide
before heading to the concession stand to buy a sticker and a Bonds
shirt for Alon [I admit it, Bonds is one of my favorite players].
Then, we headed to the upper deck for our panorama and home plate
stadium shots.
Sitting in right field for most of the game, we
didn't expect it to get so cold, but the winds from the water were
pretty strong. The game, which was sold out, was average.
The Giants' Lowry pitched a great game, and the Giants tacked on two
runs in each of two innings. In the 6th, Bonds finally got a
good pitch to hit, and skied one out to center field. He thought
it was gone, the crowd thought it was gone, and we think the right
fielder, Eric Byrnes, also thought it was gone. But, when it hit
off the wall and Byrnes misplayed the ball, Bonds' initial walk out of
the box turned into a double. Oh well, no 751. The Giants
won easily, 4 to 1, on a chilly night in a nearly perfect ballpark.
After the game, we walked back to the car where we
met Sivanne. We then drove about 3 hours to the West entrance of
Yosemite National Park. We will be stayed in a cabin at the
"Yosemite Bug" for the next two nights while exploring one of the most
beautiful places in this country. See you then! |
