Today, Alon drove from Kamloops, BC to Vancouver.
Before the drive, I got lunch at a pizza place, and watched the 148th
running of the Queen's Plate [a famous horse race in Canada]. A
female jockey won the Queen's Plate for the first time ever. The
drive to Vancouver was a bit rainy, and I hit a lot of traffic close
to the city.
After checking into my motel, I went to a sushi
place called Toshi, which got a really high Zagat food rating [26/30].
The sushi rolls were so cheap [$2.95 to $3.75], and also some of the
best I have ever tasted! After eating, I went to Stanley Park to
get some pictures of the sun setting over Vancouver. Stanley
park features some huge trees, and is right on the Pacific Ocean; it
was a very nice evening. I went back to my motel after that and
got a good night of sleep!
On the 25th, Alon picked Neal up from the Vancouver
Airport. From there, we drove straight to Chilliwack, BC for a
white water rafting trip. We were greeted by the friendly staff,
grabbed a quick lunch that they provided and changed into our
wetsuits. We drove to a spot on the river 16 km from the rafting
place, and got a thorough safety talk.
After that, we jumped in the raft and were off!
We hit some pretty big rapids; mostly grade III, but one grade IV
section. The owner of the company, who must be in his late 50s,
was kayaking down the torrent river next to our rafts the entire time.
We really got a kick out of this; he was amazing at kayaking, and we
were joking about our leisurely kayaking adventures. They took
us through the woods to a waterfall. We climbed behind it and
took some pictures [it was freezing!].
After some more big rapids, we got back to camp and
changed into some warm clothes. We then went to the downtown to
see a movie, Knocked Up, and to have some local Chinese cuisine.
We went back to the rafting camp after the movie, and slept in our
tent in one of their fields!
