Today, we woke up early after a long sleep in our tent. We
packed up our stuff and drove into Yellowstone. There were many
cars on the road, and we at first thought there was a traffic jam.
Luckily, it was due to a Bald Eagle's nest, filled with baby eagles.
The mother eagle was nearby and sat perched, posing for pictures.
Then, we went to the Norris Geyser Basin, to see a bunch of different
types of hot springs, geysers, and bubbling pools.
Next, we drove to the southeast side of the park to see more
wildlife. Luckily, we came across baby coyotes who were very
active and playful right by the side of the road. We also saw
many buffalo, baby buffalo and more deer. Driving back north, we
saw many cars stopped again, and this time, we were told that there
were wolves in the distance. On the other side a river, we saw
two wolves and a baby wolf, strolling across a field. After
this, we went to Artists' Point, in the Grand Canyon of The
Yellowstone, to view the Lower Falls. Spectacular.
We grabbed some lunch at Canyon Village before
heading off to Inspiration Point and Red Rock overlook to catch
another view of the canyon from the other side. After this, we
went towards Mt. Washburn, where we heard people had been seeing bears
in the past few days. Well, at first it looked as if we would be
out of luck... but some venturing into the woods and waiting gave us
an amazing view of a mother grizzly bear and her two cubs! To
top that off, we saw a black bear cub about 10 minutes later, down in
another field.
With the late afternoon approaching, we only had
time for one more stop: Mammoth Hot Springs. This geothermal
area was one of the coolest and weirdest ones we had seen yet.
The white, ice resembling features, mixed with oranges, browns and
yellows provided a really nice view to end our Yellowstone trip.
We got into car and drove about 6 hours to Polson, Montana, to a camp
ground about 60 miles south of Glacier National Park. See you
there tomorrow! |
