After waking up and realizing we were in a TeePee, we
ate a quick breakfast and drove through the beautiful Ski Resort town
of Jackson Hole, towards Grand Teton National Park. Grand Teton
presented us with drastic peaks, even from the beginning. These
classic looking mountains jump out of the plains, and are adorned with
lakes and forests.
After going to the visitor's center, we made our way
through a few amazing overlooks and then to Jenny Lake. Here, we
took a boat shuttle to the other side of the lake, which led to the
"Hidden Waterfalls" and "Inspiration Point" overlooks. The waterfall
itself was very inspiring, but we were blown away by the view at
Inspiration point. It was the prettiest site we have seen thus
far, and we spent some time there pondering life...
After deciding we were absolutely content with our
crazy idea to travel around the country, we made our way back across
the lake and had lunch at the Signal Lake lodge. This was our
last stop in the Tetons before heading to Yellowstone National Park.
We spent the afternoon at Yellowstone. First,
we stopped at Midway Gesyer basin, a bizarre and rare hot spring,
fueled by the underground volcano that rests beneath all of
Yellowstone. This geyser basin is one of many that we visited in
the park, including the one near Grant Village: Old Faithful. We
arrived about 45 minutes before the next predicted eruption. As
we waited, a nearby geyser erupted for about 15 minutes! Old
Faithful was a few minutes late, but it certainly didn't disappoint!
After stopping at a few more amazing overlooks and
seeing some deer, we made our way to West Yellowstone to try to find
the cabin we reserved. The cabin was described as having no
electricity, bathrooms, running water or beds, and was also in the
midst of a high concentration of grizzly bears. Luckily, it
turned out that this cabin didn't even exist; we asked numerous
people, and even the park ranger who patrolled that road had never
heard of it. We weren't too distraught over this... and ended up
renting a tent space in town! |
