Today, we woke up and drove straight to Coors Field in
Denver. We went to the will call to pick up the tickets and
parking pass left to us by Cory at KOA 850 radio station in Denver.
We went into the stadium, which, like Busch, has a beautiful brick
facade and great architecture. We made our way to the right
field upper deck for a nice view of the Rocky Mountains before taking
our shot behind home plate. The stadium also has a rock garden
and fountain with local trees in center field, a nice touch.
Coors' fence dimensions are huge, but the thin air
makes it seem like its a little league park. 6 balls flew over
the fence, and 3 more hit the wall. The home runs, however, all
traveled well beyond the fences, even the ones hit by non power
hitters. The ball is said to travel about 5 to 10% longer at
Coors, due to the Mile High elevation. Though the Rockies lost,
we were treated to quite a slugfest!
The 97 degree day also provided us with some hot
seats, but we managed to have a great time. After the game, we
didn't have much time to explore Denver, since we had to leave for
Grand Teton National Park immediately. The 8 hours drive
consisted of fields, some hills, mountains, and the occasional town.
We even passed a town with a sign that stated its population was "1".
Tonight, we are staying in a teepee in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, a
beautiful ski resort town. The teepee was basically the only
accommodation within our price range, but we are loving it!
