This morning, we woke up early and headed west to Estes
Park, Colorado. The road started to get very hilly, and soon we
were driving along a river towards snowed capped peaks. After
eating a great lunch at the Village Pizzeria, we headed towards the
park entrance. Estes Park is a quaint little town, fitting for
the entrance to a magnificent mountainous region.
We drove to numerous overlooks, which presented us
with sights of snow capped mountains, reaching about 14,000 feet at
the highest point. We were treated to our second round of
wildlife, seeing numerous Elk, a Marmot, deer, and a rabbit.
Needless the say, the park doesn't need an abundance of wildlife to
make for a great time. We saw solid lava beds, played with
unmelted snow, and saw the Continental Divide, the point where water
either flows east to the Atlantic or west to the Pacific.
After the overlooks, we stopped at Glacier Gorge
Trailhead and took a 1.8 mile round trip hike to Albert Falls.
Alon journeyed another 3.8 miles to Mills Lake, which also included a
900 foot gain in elevation. Mills Lake is adorned with snow
capped peaks, wild flowers, and glistening water; a perfect end to a
long hike. After returning to the car, we drove to Bear Lake,
another gorgeous spot in the middle of the mountains. We drove
back to Greeley, got a bite to eat and hung out with the guys we met
in the University of Northern Colorado. See you tomorrow at
Coors Field!
