One June 11th, we relaxed. Hanging out with the
St. Louis College of Pharmacy guys, Nick Dryer and Chris Koentz, was a
great way to officially kick off our welcome to the western half of
the United States. We went out with them in St. Louis, played
with their beautiful bull dog, Duchess, and even got to do three loads
of laundry.
On Tuesday, we went to Pointers Pizzeria, known for
its 28 inch pizza pies. They have a contest where two people
have to eat a 28 inch pizza with about 5 pounds of toppings in under
an hour, in addition to a liter of soda, each. Its called a
Pointersaurus. If they complete this, they win $500. The
pizza was great, but we only ate a 16" pie between the three of us.
After saying our goodbyes to our new friends, we were on our way to
Kansas City, for the game against the Cardinals; a cross state
rivalry!
Kauffman was built in the early 70s. When
Alon's Dad went on a road trip, him and his friend visited Kauffman
during its inaugural season. We were impressed by the modernity
of Kauffman: it has an open lower level, like new stadiums, an
incredible fountain that spans 322 feet in the outfield, and a retro
style scoreboard. Located in the middle of the heartland, its a
nice ballpark for a small town team.
The game was over after the first inning, as the
royals scored 5 runs and never looked back. The huge dimensions
only provided us with one home run, by a pinch hitter for the Cards in
the 9th. This was their only run, as the Royals ended up winning
8 to 1. After the game, we drove into southern Iowa, and ended
up staying at a Super 8 in Osceola. See you tomorrow in the
Metrodome! |
