Today, we began by dropping the car off at the window repair shop.
Fortunately, it was only a few blocks from the Fan Fest. This
event was a lot of fun and had various events such as a speed pitch,
batting practice cage, calling a live play, and actual clinics taught
by retired players. Neal actually participated in a Cooperstown
trivia event and was badly beat. His opponent knowing a great
deal about baseball's history combined with Neal's lack of
technological access the past few weeks led to his demise. Alon
also viewed a hitting workshop by Cal Ripken Jr., which was a lot of
fun. We were also both on MLB.TV, and won T Shirts after stumping two
experts in baseball trivia [we called a friend, Jordan Posner,
beforehand, and he gave us some impossible questions to ask]. After
walking around, gathering some neat memorabilia, and participating a
some of the events, we had to leave because we had to get to the Home
Run Derby at AT&T Park. This event was supposed to be extra special
because we weren't technically in AT&T Park to watch this event.
We hauled our inflatable kayaks about half a mile before reaching the
Official Boat Launch area for the derby. Along with about 300
other vessels, we passed through coast guard control and got a special
sticker. We used our kayaks to float in McCovey Cove and try to catch some Home
Run balls. The cove was literally jammed pack and the atmosphere
was great. However, the Derby itself was somewhat boring and
there were no actual Home Runs hit into the Cove. We decided to head
back to land after the first round because all the left handed hitters
had been eliminated (McCovey Covey is located behind right field) and
make our way back to Natalie's apartment and get dinner.
We found a cool, little Japanese Restaurant where if
you sit at the Sushi bar, they place the sushi you ordered on a boat
in a little stream that takes the sushi to you. It was a good meal
that capped off another long and fun day!
