Today, we headed out of downtown San Francisco and across the Bay
Bridge into Oakland for the Athletics match up with the Seattle
Mariners. McAfee Coliseum is old and run down. A huge
structure, called Mt. Davis, was recently built in the outfield which
serves as additional seating for when the Raiders play. The name comes
from the Raiders controversial owner Al Davis. However.
this structure makes this old stadium even worse and puts it right
among the worst stadiums we've seen on the trip. Thankfully,
they are building a new ballpark set to open in the next three or four
years.
The game itself was very entertaining. Behind an Eric Chavez
Home Run, the A's jumped out to a 3 to 2 lead after five innings.
After a scoreless sixth, the game took a wild turn. The
Mariner's had bases loaded with no out in the top of the seventh.
After a 3 run double from Raul Ibanez, a fight broke out behind home
plate. The bullpens, conveniently located on the field, emptied
along with the dugouts. The two sides went back and forth for a bit until it was
broken up, and we caught it all on video! Finally, all was settled and the Mariners went on to
win 7 to 3.
After the game, we headed back to San Francisco for a quick bite to
eat, pick up Sivanne, then head to towards the Pier for our tour of
Alcatraz. Neal went into Chinatown for a delicious meal.
Afterwards, all hell broke loose...
When walking to the car, we noticed there was broken glass all over
the place. When we arrived, we saw our right passenger window
was broken, but more importantly, our GPS, Darlene, was stolen. Darlene was
killed in a vicious act in which some criminal decided to take the law
into his own hands. If anyone heard or saw anything in relation
to her, please contact us immediately. :(
Unfortunately, we were not able to get to Alcatraz, but the manager
told us he would honor the tickets on another day. After that, we
went to dinner to calm down at The Stinking Rose, a garlic restaurant
where they say "The garlic is cooked in meat." It was delicious
and we then headed back to Natalie's place for a much needed night of
sleep.
