Sequoia National Park

Central California

We all fit in the tent!  After waking up in a forest of tall trees, we drove to a store inside of the park to buy a quick breakfast.  Our first stop today was the General Sherman Tree, the largest living thing on Earth, in volume.  This tree is 275 feet tall and has a 38 foot diameter at its base.  It was huge.  It is also estimated to be over 2,000 years old.  After admiring this giant, we headed to the Crystal Cave, one of the only marble caves in the world.

To get to the Crystal Cave, we had to walk down a half mile long trail.  Once we got there, we joined a group of about 100 people who would walk through the cave with us.  Our tour guide was great this time, a big change from the last cave we visited.  We also got to see a lot of classic cave features, stalagmites, stalactites and more!  This cave was really magnificent, and we all enjoyed it a lot.  After Crystal Cave, we went to Moro Rock, which overlooks the canyon in Sequoia.  Moro is a huge granite outgrowth in the middle of the forest, and it provided us of wonderful views.

Finally, we found the Tunnel Log, which is a fallen log with a hole cut in the middle big enough to fit large cars.  Though its not a standing tunnel tree, we were happy to drive through a tree after all!  After getting a bite to eat at a pizza place and then winding down the side of a mountain, we were finally headed to Las Vegas!  We passed through two cities, Primm, Nevada and Jean, Nevada, which both have a lot of bright flashing lights.  Being first time Vegas visitors, these cities excited us, but when we finally hit into the Sin City, we were overwhelmed by the grandeur.  Coming into Vegas at night was quite a remarkable experience!
