Grand Canyon National Park

Arizona

We left from Tuba City and headed towards the Grand Canyon.  The weather was rainy and cloudy and we were worried that we wouldn't get a good view of the canyon.  The view few viewpoints we got to were indeed hazy and it was difficult to get good pictures.  The Desert View tower was a cool place to view the canyon from and also included Native American art.  However, as we slowly made our way to the main part of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, the skies cleared up and our views drastically improved.

The Grand Canyon is simply just grand.  Its huge.  And colorful, intricate, deep, long, and just amazing.  It all formed from millions of years of erosion from the Colorado River and its tributaries, but its hard to believe how the river was able to carve such a massive and diverse canyon.  After getting to Grand Canyon Village, we got a big lunch and were ready to explore the canyon further.  We walked over to the Hermits Rest shuttle stop which allowed us to get many views along the South Rim.  We took a few mile long walks around the rim trail and managed to see all of the viewpoints.  The Colorado river was raging and we saw the supposed Grade VIII rapids, which, compared to the Grade IV that we experienced in Vancouver, seemed pretty scary to us.

When we got to Hermits Rest, we relaxed a bit in the lodge which had a welcoming feeling and huge fireplace.  We made our way back to the village and waited a while for the sunset to come, but it was unfortunately covered by approaching clouds.  So, we drove to Williams, Arizona, where we spent the night.  See you tomorrow in Sedona and Phoenix for the Diamondbacks game!
