Today, we went to Bryce Canyon National Park, one of
the most beautiful and bizarre places on earth. As with other
parks in the southwest, this desert environment featured unique and
colorful rock formations sculpted by wind and water. Bryce is
especially beautiful, as its hoodoos [rock towers] rise from the
canyon with reds, whites, lavenders, oranges and yellow colors, and
also has scattered trees. We first went to Inspiration and
Sunrise Points before getting a quick bite to eat. Then, we
walked to the coral for our 2 hour horseback riding tour!
We saddled up and headed out into the Bryce
amphitheater, which is the area on the bottom of the canyon. The
horseback trip allowed us to see much of the park in a short amount of
time, and we also were given great explanations by our guides. The red
dust rose into our faces during the gallops, but for the most part, we
enjoyed a leisurely stroll on the horses through the rock formations.
The rocks are a lot larger than they appear from high above
viewpoints, and there is also a lot more to see when on the canyon
level.
After the tour, we went to a few more overlooks
including a giant natural bridge and Rainbow Point. We also saw
a weird looking deer on the way out of the park. We then made
our way towards Zion National Park, and set up our tent in a KOA in
Glendale, Utah. We went to dinner at a local BBQ place with a
very friendly staff and local flavor. Alon tried the Elk burger,
and Neal had a great dish of ribs. We were also lucky to see
some hummingbirds at the restaurant! See you tomorrow at Zion
National Park. |
