Today, we started the day by going to the Del Mar beach
with Shanna. This beach was the nicest one we have visited yet,
and we stayed here for a few hours. After that, we went back and
showered before driving to Petco Park for the Padres game. Upon
arriving, we were greeted by Alex Montoya, who is in charge of
Hispanic Marketing for the Padres. He generously gave us all a
gift bag of Padres stuff and then led us to the field to watch batting
practice.
Petco Park, graced by the best weather in the
country, is right in the heart of downtown San Diego. The park
has both a modern and old school feel to it. Besides lacking a
big variety of food, it has some really cool features. In left
field, there is a warehouse similar to Camden Yards, but it is
actually park of the stadium, as the Padres added seats on the
balconies and top of the building. Also, in center field, there
is a picnic area where families can watch the game from a grassy hill.
The downtown buildings nicely fill in the rest of the view, and the
the odd wall dimensions add a cool twist. Also, there are towers
on both sides of the park which have sky box seats in them.
While on the field during BP, we got to meet Ricky
Henderson and talk to a few players, including Shawn Green. Neal
got a ball and had Green sign it, and Alon got his autograph on his
ticket. Alex knew the lady who does the pregame show for the
Padres, and set us up with a cool live on field interview before the
game. It was awesome!
The game itself was all Mets from the start, as they
scored 1 run in the 4th, and that was all they needed. El Duque
went 7 innings, let off 2 hits and no runs and even stole second base!
During the game, Chrissy Russo, the lady who interviewed us, called us
and asked us to come down to the Fox 6 news station the next day for
another live interview on their morning show. After the game, we
went to Neal's cousin Jess's apartment to sleep. See you
tomorrow, early morning, in the TV studio, and then on a 12 hour drive
to Utah! |
