Today we woke up early to take a cab to Fisherman's
Warf where we met our bus for a wine tour to the Napa Valley. The bus
driver was a true Wine expert, and he would eventually become one of
our favorite characters of the trip. His humor mixed in nicely
with the information he provided us of the wineries and local area.
Our first stop was the welcome center, where we had
a little tasting of everything; we decided from the start that the
Muscato was our favorite. It is a sweet tasting after dinner
wine, and we particularly liked the orange flavored version.
After passing many more vineyards, we arrived at Sutter Home Winery,
one of the most popular and large scale wineries in America. We
had a little tasting there too, and also explored their beautiful
estate.
After this, we drove to Yountville, which is in the
North of the valley. We were free to roam around and have lunch.
Alon was particularly excited to see the French Laundry restaurant,
which is rated in numerous guides as the best restaurant in America.
We each got a menu here. After lunch, we were off to Madonna
Estates winery where we received a comprehensive tour and explanation
of the wine making process from grape to barrel. We tried some
more wine here, and then headed back towards the city across the
Golden Gate Bridge. We went back to Ruth's house for some great
indian dinner, and also got to spend time with their cute children,
Emmanuel and Jullian! See you tomorrow on the California coast! |
